What to Expect Before and After Sessions | Dallas Photographer

As both a photographer and a mom to two young kids, I understand that preparing for a photo session can be stressful and overwhelming. That’s why I make it my mission to make the entire process as easy and stress-free as possible. In order to do that, I want my clients to know exactly what to expect before and after sessions with me. By knowing my process, you can feel confident and prepared for your upcoming session!

What to Expect Before Your Session

One of the most common questions I get asked is, “what should we wear for our session?”. To help you with this, I provide a style guide that walks you through what to wear and how to select outfits for the whole family. Additionally, I have a client closet for moms and littles to choose from. This makes it even easier for you to coordinate your outfits!

I understand that choosing the right location for your session can be tricky. I will always assess the lighting of your home beforehand, either in person or by photos you provide, looking for neutral areas to use as a backdrop. This can be in your bedroom, living room, or even the kitchen. I avoid any darker walls or rooms. If your home doesn’t have a lot of access to natural light, or you prefer your session not be in-home, I also have a light and airy studio that we can use!

For outdoor maternity and family sessions, I look for non-distracting backgrounds to create a light and airy feel. I also photograph around sunrise and sunset times to ensure the best lighting for your photos! Trust me – I know these times aren’t always convenient, especially if you have young children, BUT your images will be absolutely stunning.

When it comes to timing of maternity and newborn sessions, I suggest scheduling maternity photos between 28-34 weeks, before you get too uncomfortable. For newborn sessions, the best time for photos is between 6-14 days old, before they start to become more awake and baby acne starts to appear.

What to Expect After Your Session

Once the session is over, I will come home, give my own family some hugs, and then start downloading your photos! Typically, the turnaround time is two weeks. This allows me enough time to properly go through the images. I will cull through the multiples and those with someone blinking, and edit them in my unique style. Two weeks after your session, I will send you an email with a link to your gallery. There you can view your photo proofs and make selections for your album or prints.  I use a user-friendly program called Pic-Time to share your photos with you. In the final gallery, you can download your photos with ease and convenience.

Displaying Your Images

As a photographer, I believe that photos are meant to be printed and displayed, not just stored on your computer. I encourage you to print your photos and hang them in your home. There is nothing like walking by your living room and seeing your family decorate the walls, telling your unique story, or running you hand over the pages of your album as you relive the moment or season of life.  It has also been proven that children who see photos of themselves around their home have higher self-esteem and greater sense of family pride.

The gallery delivery platform I use is Pic-Time. There is a great quality print lab attached to it, making it easy to order prints. I can also design an heirloom album for you! I always make a family album after each of my own family sessions and my boys LOVE looking through them!
