This recent Beverly-Harris House newborn session in Mckinney, TX had my heart melting from the very start. There’s nothing sweeter than watching a big sibling fall in love with their new baby brother or sister. Big brother walked in so excited to show off his baby sister and just couldn’t stop loving on her. Throughout the session he was kissing her head, touching her tiny fingers, or talking to me about his new role as big brother now that she’s here. He proudly told me he was going to help feed her, protect her, and teach her all about T-Rexes. (A very important big brother responsibility, obviously.) Meanwhile, baby sister snoozed sweetly through it all, wrapped in a swaddle and soaking in all the love.
A Studio Full of Sweet Moments
In the middle of soft poses and baby snuggles, we also made room for play, because that’s what toddlers do best. Big brother showed me his dino collection and played in various spaces of the house. I always try to follow the lead of my littles during sessions. If baby needs to sleep or eat, then we adjust. The same goes for older siblings. If they need a break to play, we allow it to unfold naturally. These are the kinds of moments I live for: unscripted, full of personality, and brimming with love.
I always say newborn sessions aren’t just for the baby. They are about capturing the whole family and creating memories of this sweet season of life. Big brothers and sisters are going through a huge transition, and honoring their role in the story makes the photos even more meaningful. Whether that means giving them space to explore, including their favorite toy, or letting them “help,” those little touches go a long way in making the experience joyful for everyone. This Beverly-Harris House newborn session was so sweet, and I loved seeing this family create new memories together.
