If you’re expecting a little one, congratulations! Whether it’s your first or your fourth, pregnancy is such a beautiful and fleeting season. I know from experience that sometimes pregnancy can feel like it lasts forever, but it really is just a short blip of time, which is why I am so passionate about documenting this season of life with professional maternity photos. This is one of the best ways to remember it forever, and trust me, you’ll want to! As a Dallas Maternity Photographer, one of the most common questions I get from expecting moms is: “When should I book my maternity photos?” Today I am going to share everything you need to know about the best time to book maternity photos.
The Best Time to Book Maternity Photos: 28–34 Weeks
The absolute best time to take maternity photos is typically between 28 and 34 weeks of pregnancy. This is the sweet spot as during this window of time, your bump is beautifully round and noticeable, but you’re still (hopefully!) feeling fairly comfortable. You’re past the early pregnancy fatigue and nausea, but not yet in that final stretch where everything feels a bit more uncomfortable and challenging. I want you to feel good and comfortable for our session. Another benefit to this timeframe is that it gives us some cushion in case your little one decides to make an early debut!
Quick note for those carrying multiples or have a higher risk pregnancy: I recommend scheduling on the earlier end of that range, closer to 28–30 weeks.
When to Book Your Maternity Session
As with any session, booking in advance is key! I recommend reaching out and securing your maternity session around the beginning of your second trimester (around 13–16 weeks). That way, we’ll have plenty of time to plan your session and make sure we get it on the calendar before things start to fill up (especially if you’re due in a popular season like spring or fall).
Booking early also gives you more options for styling, location, and time of day. Not to mention, it’s one less thing to think about as your due date approaches! I’m all about making things easier and stress-free!
What If I’m Later in Pregnancy and Haven’t Booked Yet?
Don’t stress! If you’re past 34 weeks and still want maternity photos, reach out anyway. I’ll do my best to find a spot for you! I’ve photographed gorgeous sessions at 36 or even 38 weeks. Every woman and pregnancy is different, and there’s no “too late” to capture this moment (unless baby decides to make an early debut!).
Bonus Tip: Bundle Your Maternity + Newborn Sessions
Many clients choose to book their maternity and newborn photos together as part of the Bump to Baby or First Year Collection. It’s the perfect way to document your growing family without having to plan everything separately, and you’ll get a sweet little discount, too!
Looking back, you’ll never regret having these milestones documented. Instead, you’ll treasure them forever. Reach out today if you’re ready to book your first year collection and have beautifully captured images from each milestone, from belly to first birthday! I’d love to chat and document these precious moments of your little one.
