A Lifestyle Newborn Session for Twin Boy and Girl in Dallas

Isla and Luca’s twin newborn session was double the fun! Trisha and Joe welcomed me into their home in Dallas, TX with open arms. I immediately felt like I’d known their family for years. This is one of the many reasons why I love photographing clients in their home. You feel completely comfortable in your own space, and it feels no different than inviting a friend over to spend time with your family.

Embracing the Unplanned in Your Newborn Session

Isla and Luca already had ideas of their own, even as newborns! Every time I tried to put the twins’ heads together, Luca would turn away from his sister. It was so funny! Mom wanted to get a special photo of them for their twin newborn session in their name outfits. They were having none of it. Trisha simply embraced the moment and said, “That’s the reality of having twins!”

When you’re photographing twins, or newborns in general, real-life is to be expected. Everything doesn’t always go according to plan and that’s okay! As I walked in the door, sweet baby Isla was having a blowout. Not long after wrapping Luca in his swaddle, he joined his twin sister in the fun and had a blowout too.

If this happens during your newborn session, please know that this is completely normal! It’s a natural part of life with newborns. There’s never a need to apologize! Clean-up is quick and easy in the comfort of your own home.

Inviting Older Siblings into Newborn Sessions

Isla and Luca’s big sister, Emma, couldn’t be left out of their twin newborn session. She was fun and full of personality! Emma asked me a ton of questions about my photography business. She’s so curious and bold, and I absolutely love it. Emma has grown up fast being a big sister to twins. She wanted an outfit change during the session and needed to touch up her makeup as well. It was so sweet!

It’s so important to document your older children in your little one’s newborn session. There is something incredibly special about watching them step into the role of a big brother or sister. They grow up right before your eyes when you see them with your newborn. It will blow your mind how much older they suddenly feel! All the more reason to take as many photos as possible to cherish the time you have with them under your roof.

The Key to Calm During the Newborn Stage

I had so much fun photographing this family! I could tell this wasn’t Trisha and Joe’s first time around the block with parenting. They are complete naturals. For being parents of twins and an older daughter, they are very patient and laid back. They accept life at it naturally happens and that’s key to retaining your sanity during the newborn stage.
