You don’t have to wait for spring blooms or golden fall leaves to have a beautiful maternity session. There is so much beauty in the winter months, especially when you know just where to go, and this lakeside maternity session is the perfect example. Murrell Lake in Flower Mound, TX provided the most stunning backdrop for this family as they celebrated the upcoming arrival of the newest addition to their family. The soft, muted tones of the dry grass, bare trees, and rocky shoreline created a dreamy, peaceful setting that let this glowing mama truly shine. While I know winter landscapes aren’t everyone’s first choice, there was something so beautiful about the simplicity of it all.

Winter Lakeside Maternity Session at Murrell Lake

What I love about capturing maternity sessions in the winter is that everything feels slower and more intentional. There’s no lush green or colorful blooms stealing the show. Instead there are just soft, neutral earth tones, open skies, and a gorgeous momma-to-be.

This location gave us a little of everything: textured rocks, calming lake views, and open fields. It’s one of my favorite hidden gems, especially in the winter. This beautiful Mom wore a flowy, dusty pink dress that looked amazing both on her and against the winter landscape. Her husband and little boy wore neutral outfits that created a cohesive look, effortlessly.

Towards the end of the session, the sun was going down and hitting the water just right creating the most epic backdrop full of soft light. Mom made a quick outfit change into a two-piece, white skirt outfit to show off her beautiful baby bump. She sat on the rocks dipping her toes into the lake, and it made for the most gorgeous portraits.
