Another fun studio cake smash session is in the books and miss Emma had a blast digging into her cake! But this session had an extra special meaning and I’m honored I was trusted to capture it for this sweet family.
Why I Love Family Photography
Family photography is special in many ways. It captures growing families, children through the years and many of the little bits about life that we wish we could hang onto forever. It can also help memorialize a special stage of life. Sometimes with a planned session and sometimes just by the fact that yearly photos are taken of your family. You may never know what memories you are hanging onto!
When I sit back and think of why I love my job, capturing these memories is the first reason that pops in my head. Nothing will ever top that I get help my families hold onto memories.
Emma’s Cake Smash Session
My latest cake smash session was an extra special one that aligned so perfectly with why I do what I do. Emma was born with Craniosynostiosis and will be having having surgery on June 28, 2022. This session was not only important to her mom, Kim, to celebrate her first birthday, but also because she will likely not look the same after surgery.
Craniosynostiosis essentially means the in the womb, one of her sutures in her skull permanently fused. This lead to the right part of her head not being able to grow as it should.
To correct this, a surgery called cranial vault remodel is done. Which basically means they will be remodeling her skull. This is done so that her brain will have enough room to grow and keep from hindering her development. Her surgeon team includes a neurosurgeon, cranial surgeon and plastic surgeon. They’ll be completing this procedure along with tubes being put in her ears.
If you’re a mom, you know that is a lot to watch your baby go through! I am so glad Kim thought to have a session before this to capture this sweet girls personality.
Prayers for Emma
If you have a moment, will you take a second to send up a prayer? Pray for a smooth surgery for, skill for her doctors and peace for her parents while they wait for their little girl! I know that this family could use them and would very much appreciate the support!
