Another sweet in-home newborn session is in the books. I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of capturing families in their own element! The Miller family just welcomed sweet Blakely into their life. I had the honor of capturing them all in the comfort of their own home. Including their dog (who has its own instagram account) who would jump on the bed any chance he could! He was quite possibly the most well behaved dog I have been around. As soon as he was on the bed, he would pose for photos.
Getting Older Siblings Involved
One of my favorite things about in-home newborn sessions is the ease of involving older children in the shoot too. It isn’t always easy to get everyone to cooperate for family photos, but when you’re in your own home and have the things that make them happy easy to reach, it makes things much easier!
Brayden, Blakely’s older brother, was just under two and was not very interested in photos. However, his parents hinted that his current obsession is the remote and there may or may not have been a bit of bribing to get him to crawl up with his sister.
Neutral Outfit Choices
I have to point out their outfit choices for their session because they were just perfect! A neutral outfit choice is always the way to go in my opinion. Everyone is coordinated without matching too matchy and you can easily be photographed around your home.
Newborn Photo Timing
To get the sleepy, posed photos of your newborn, I often suggest doing the session when they are six to thirteen days old. Blakley was 18 days old so was awake most of the time. This is definitely not a big deal and we can make whatever we have work, it’s just something to consider when thinking of the style you want for your newborn session!
